Give your home an MOT...

Your home is probably the most expensive purchase you will make, yet often we take them for granted and forget that, just like our cars, they need constant looking after.

They need checking to make sure they're in tip-top shape, that everything's in working order, and that they're working as efficiently as they possibly can.

One of the best ways to do that is with a Green Deal Assessment.

These are carried out by a qualified Green Deal Assessor and are a two to three hour (depending on the size) asessment of your home. They look at ways your home could save energy, cut down on your energy expenditure and see whether your home might be suitable for a particular renewable energy technology.

If so, you might be eligible for help through the Energy Company Obligation or Green Deal.

Once you've had your Assessment, you'll receive an Advice Report which consists of two elements, an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) and an Occupancy Assessment.

The EPC looks at the fabric of the building and makes recommendations of energy efficiency improvements that could be made, gives indicative costs of installation and savings that could be expected. This is based on standard occupancy patterns.

The Occupancy Assessment, however, collects data that more accurately reflects the way you use energy in your home. The Advisor will ask you information about heating times, hot water use and how much you use major appliances. All this helps to build a comparison between your energy use and that of the standard occupant used in the EPC and gives you, the householder, a better estimation of the savings that could be made as a result of improvements.

Warm and Well is managed by Severn Wye Energy Agency, which is a certified Green Deal Advice Organisation and act as a first point of contact for anyone thinking of having an assessment of their property.
