Secondary schools

Over the years, Severn Wye has developed a number of initiatives intended to improve sustainability in schools - help improve young people's understanding of energy.

Our Ashden Award-winning Young Energy People project has been running in secondary schools across the South West of England since 2007. Through this innovative project, students are provided with the knowledge and skills to investigate and report on energy use in their school.

They work in teams, with each members taking on a separate role: energy manager, IT specialists, energy detectives, marketing officers, etc. From this, they develop a school-wide energy efficiency campaign to encourage positive behaviour change amongst students, staff and the wider community.

For young people looking beyond school and at their own futures, Severn Wye runs the Your Green Future project - a series of showcase events bringing together big and small business, the education service and young people. The aim is to help young people see the breadth and scope of careers out there, and to understand what they need to compete for work in the burgeoning green economy.
