Lighting Procurement Project

Background

The lighting procurement project is a pilot project for PROEFFICIENCY - a three year project, supported by Intelligent Energy Europe, which focuses on increasing the use of energy efficient lighting, fridges and freezers.

Key Points

An initiative to promote the use of energy efficient lighting and refrigeration in Europe

Bringing together retailers and consumers in voluntary pilot initiatives to increase awareness and uptake of energy efficient products

Aims

The objective of this pilot is to persuade tertiary sector consumer organisations (particularly local prisons) to incorporate efficient lighting into their procurement policy, and hence to increase the efficiency of their lighting stock. Initial work has already been undertaken with four local prisons.

Expected Savings

It is anticipated that lighting energy savings of up to 295 MWh and 125tCO2 per year could be achieved through the project, based on initial surveys and recommended actions with four Welsh prisons.
