Spectrum

Background

Spectrum is a pilot project for PROEFFICIENCY - a three year project, supported by Intelligent Energy Europe, which focuses on increasing the use of energy efficient lighting, fridges and freezers.

Key Points

An initiative to promote the use of energy efficient lighting and refrigeration in Europe

Bringing together retailers and consumers in voluntary pilot initiatives to increase awareness and uptake of energy efficient products

Aims

The objective of this pilot project is to encourage local independent lighting retailers to stock and promote a more varied range of subsidised energy efficient light bulbs, than the standard energy efficient lightbulbs that are usually distributed to consumers.

This is being combined with energy efficiency advice centre activity to inform consumers about the variety of bulbs available through the promotion and to advise on the different types of bulbs that are likely to be best in different situations.

Expected savings

It is anticipated that the project could produce energy savings in the region of 80 MWh/year and 34tCO2/year, based on the assumed participation of 10 independent retailers and the substitution of 1,000 bulbs for energy efficient alternatives.
