Cold Procurement
Pilot Project

Background

The cold product procurement pilot is a pilot project for PROEFFICIENCY - a three year project, supported by Intelligent Energy Europe, which focuses on increasing the use of energy efficient lighting, fridges and freezers.

Key Points

An initiative to promote the use of energy efficient lighting and refrigeration in Europe

Bringing together retailers and consumers in voluntary pilot initiatives to increase awareness and uptake of energy efficient products

Aims

The objective of this pilot is for participating organisations to commit to purchasing energy efficient fridges and freezers when buying new products or replacing old stock, in order to reduce their energy use, costs and CO2 emissions.

Expected savings

It is anticipated that this could save up to 40 MWh/year and 17tCO2/year, based on an assumption of 10 participating organisations, each of which switches 20 fridges under the pilot, with each fridge saving approx 224 kwh/year.

Note:

Since the inception of this project pilot we have established that in order to change corporate policies within the timeframes of the IEE project was very unlikely despite the will of the participating organisations.

With this in mind this project has developed into promoting energy efficient lighting and cold appliances to is consumers i.e. to its staff and to its tenants
