LightSwitch

Background

LightSwitch is a pilot project for PROEFFICIENCY - a three year project, supported by Intelligent Energy Europe, which focuses on increasing the use of energy efficient lighting, fridges and freezers.

Key Points

An initiative to promote the use of energy efficient lighting and refrigeration in Europe

Bringing together retailers and consumers in voluntary pilot initiatives to increase awareness and uptake of energy efficient products

Aims

This pilot focuses on efficient lighting (including efficient use of lighting) as a quarterly theme for a local authority staff awareness project, covering energy use both in the workplace and at home. A network of staff energy champions will be established in each local authority to help spearhead the project.

Expected Savings

It is anticipated that the project could save up to 200 MWh and 86 tCO2 per year, assuming 2,500 staff each switch 1x100w equivalent light that lasts for 10,000 hours over 10 years.
