Profile
For more than a decade, Severn Wye offered free, impartial and local domestic energy advice to the people of Gloucestershire. Whilst it’s difficult to give exact numbers, we estimate that since 2001 we’ve helped almost 40,000 people to stay warm and well in their homes.
Run for a number of years as a local hub which was part of the Energy Saving Trust’s national energy advice line, Severn Wye first started offering domestic energy advice for residents in the Forest of Dean in the late 1990’s.
After national funding was withdrawn in early 2012, Severn Wye sought funding from a number of local authorities and the local NHS to continue offering help to those most in need across Gloucestershire, South Gloucestershire and Wiltshire.
A key aim of the line is to offer targeted advice and support to those vulnerable people who are at most risk from the impacts of fuel poverty – the elderly, low income families, unemployed and disabled.
Severn Wye’s advisors will primarily provide advice over the phone, assessing an individual’s needs. However, our team are also able to provide home visits to those people within Gloucestershire for whom extra support is needed.
The team are also able to provide talks and briefings to staff and community groups, on issues such as spotting the signs of fuel poverty and knowing what support is available.
