Severn Wye Energy Agency and Centre for Sustainable Energy (CSE) jointly organised an event in Bristol this month attended by around 100 delegates. With speakers from Severn Wye, CSE, DECC and Scottish and Southern Energy the conference looked at the Green Deal and the opportunities and challenges of this radical development in Government energy efficiency policy. The daytime conference was targeted primarily at local authority officers and councillors, with an evening event for community groups and organisations. Presentations from the event can be downloaded here.
A highlight of the conference was the launch of the Target 2050 homes report and the first 20 of 50 emerging case studies of local homes in Stroud District and neighbouring areas. Target 2050 is a programme designed to stimulate a ‘step change’ in achieving deep carbon cuts across the public, domestic business and community sectors, and is delivered by Severn Wye on behalf of Stroud District Council. It provides a valuable practical knowledge base to inform the development of the Green Deal framework as well as being shared further afield via the European Networks within which Severn Wye Energy Agency is active. The report and case studies can be found here.
The event also marked the start of a new joint initiative by Severn Wye Energy Agency and the Centre for Sustainable Energy, to develop a ‘Green Deal Local Incubator’ which aims to provide the basic mechanisms and systems to enable local delivery of Green Deal.
