Severn Wye Energy Agency

The Severn Wye Energy Agency is one of a network of agencies across Europe, set up to stimulate the development of sustainable energy through local and regional action for energy efficiency and the use of renewable energy resources. It was set up as an independent (not-for-profit) company in 1999 to take forward the work of the Forest of Dean Energy Team.

Recent work of the Agency has included; the production of an Energy Plan for the Forest of Dean District, initiatives to improve energy efficiency in small to medium tourist facilities, setting up an energy advice centre for households and small business enterprises and a market development study on the use of wood pellets for heating in the UK and across Europe.

The Agency has an ongoing programme of awareness and advice initiatives, including regional energy efficiency training. Other current activities include

  • a project to develop teams of local volunteer energy champions to advise others within the community
  • support to local authorities in Gloucestershire, Wiltshire and Wolverhampton in the delivery of projects targeted at vulnerable households, in partnership with health authorities and the voluntary sector
  • development and publication of two manuals on home energy efficiency for use in adult basic skills education

Severn Wye Energy Agency offers support to local authorities in achievement of their objectives under the Home Energy Conservation Act and strategic planning for renewable energy, as well as developing a range of initiatives in partnership with other local, regional and national bodies.
