GET Project
Gloucestershire Environmental Trust

Background

Severn Wye Energy Agency (SWEA) has been working in partnership with the Gloucestershire Environmental Trust Company (GET) since April 2007 on a project to promote sustainable energy in community and historic buildings. The collaboration was launched in the wake of the former Community Renewables Initiative, and has been extended to run through 2009 and beyond. The original aim was to assist 10 sites, although over 25 have now been completed, with more on our growing waiting list.

SWEA is able to visit qualifying sites for a comprehensive energy survey that examines the building fabric, heating systems, lighting and other building services. Our surveys are followed up by a full written report, outlining key energy efficiency measures, and the suitability of the building for one or more renewable energy technologies. Reports also offer advice on grant funding availability, both from the GET and other sources. GET grant funding originates from the Landfill Communities Fund (LCF), and the GET is responsible for re-distributing this income in a manner that enhances the quality of the environment for Gloucestershire and its people.

Target 2050 - Community

Our surveys are offered free of charge to organisations who show a commitment to improving the sustainability of their buildings: specifically, prior to a SWEA survey, it is essential that your project gains 'approval in principle' from ENTRUST, the organisation that regulates the LCF. More information is available in the Downloads section below.

Support

As part of the project agreement, SWEA will also provide post-survey support to community building managers, with regard to seeking quotes, accessing grant money, dealing with planning issues and helping improvements to happen as quickly as possible.
