SOLAR POWER

The solar energy resource in and around Lydney is good. Gloucestershire is located towards the south and west of the UK, and receives enough solar radiation to provide potential year round contributions to hot water and electricity.

Several members of the Energy Club have already invested in solar systems on their own homes and all local people are being encouraged to take advantage of the DTi PV Programme grants for solar photovoltaic and the 'Clear Skies' renewable energy grants scheme for solar hot water systems. A local secondary school is investigating the installation of a photovoltaic roof as a demonstration of solar energy in action and as an educational tool for the pupils.

There are two local Solar Clubs in the area that present the opportunity for individuals to train in the DIY installation of solar water heaters and have good local support networks offering tools, help and advice.
