REDI is was Gloucestershire based project which aimed to help local communities start up their own renewable energy projects. The project was set up to help people take control of their energy use and understand the clean energy technologies of tomorrow.

REDI proceeded the Community Renewables Initiative which has taken over ongoing community renewables work.

Training on renewable energy

The REDI training programme was aimed at helping people to understand:

“what renewable energy sources are available in my area?”

“what will it be like to live with renewable energy?”

"what can renewable energy do for me?"

a brief introduction to renewable energy and the environmental impacts of energy use.
a description of the major renewable energy technologies such as solar, wind, hydro and biomass
some exercises looking at what makes a good site for the different renewable energy technologies and what renewable energy sources might be available in your area
what are the benefits of using renewable energy for local people
ways for people to get involved with the development of their local renewable energy sources

Support and advice for renewable energy projects

The aim of REDI was to help local people set up practical renewable energy projects, so the project involved more than just training.

Following the training programme REDI also provided support for people who would like to develop their own community renewable energy projects.

This support included advice on:

which technologies to choose
where to find further information
how to get your project off the ground
how to finance your project
how to get funding
