RAREC Project

Raising Awareness of Renewable Energy in the Cotswolds

Severn Wye Energy Agency (SWEA) is working in partnership with Cotswold District Council (CDC) on a project to promote the use of small-scale renewable energy. The project runs for one year from September 2007, and the aim is to visit 10 sites and carry out energy surveys. These will be followed up by a full written report, outlining the suitability of the building for one or more renewable technologies, as well as suggesting key energy efficiency measures, and offering advice on grant funding availability from national and local sources.

As of July 2008, all site visits and reports had been completed.

SWEA is also providing post-visit support to community building managers, with regard to seeking quotes, accessing grant money, dealing with planning issues and helping improvements happen as quickly as possible. The aim is provide development support to exemplar renewable schemes at at least 5 of these sites, with a combined capacity of at least 100 kW.

RAREC Event

To wrap-up the project, a 'big bang' event is being held at the end of September in Cirencester, to promote the work carried out under the project, and to offer everyone a chance to meet renewables installers, see presentations and talk to experts. For full details, contact Alastair Stevens.

SWEA's work is funded by CDC's Second Homes Council Tax fund.
